Don’t Let Cost Be The Reason You Walk Away

    By Matthew Friedman | Community, Instruments, Lessons | 0 comment | 21 May, 2017 | 1

Few people will argue that private music lessons are one of those extra curricula where costs can add up quickly. There are tuition costs, the instruments themselves cost money to rent or purchase, and even after you’ve acquired them, most instruments have ongoing maintenance expenses or consumable parts that you still have to deal with. It can become very easy for a family who genuinely wants to take music lessons to look at all the dollar signs piling up and decide that it’s just not possible. Lessons Unlimited wants to make sure that nobody who wants to study music has to give that opportunity up because of limited financial resources.

We want everybody to be able to enjoy the benefits of learning music and to have the chance to take music lessons. Sadly, as passionate as we are about this, and as much as we want to be the organization in St. Louis to bring music to everybody, we just don’t have the financial means to offer scholarships, tuition waivers, and free instruments. Don’t despair though! There are some charitable organizations in our community that can offer the need-based assistance and the resources for lower-income families to be able to bring music lessons back into reach.

The Salvation Army in St. Louis has an amazing range of youth programs. Many of their community centers offer community music lessons. Please feel free to reach out to a Salvation Army youth center in your area for more information.

St. Louis is also privileged to be home to the Pianos for People non-profit organization, that is committed to providing access to pianos to families who can afford them. They also offer music lesson programming as well to their piano recipients.

In addition the above local organizations, there are also national charitable organizations that provide low cost or free musical instruments to students who have a need. One such organization is Hungry For Music. Hungry For Music does not take direct applications from the individuals needing the instrument, however, if you need assistance with the matter, please let our office know, and we will be happy to help file the appropriate instrument application request on your behalf.

We hope that this information can be helpful to anybody who wishes to let music into regardless and home, reguardles of financial means and wish you the very best of luck.
